PLAYFUL MONDAYS

JKIS has prepared a unique morning program for children ages 14 months-3 years old. We strive to provide a safe, warm, home-like environment full of hugs and positive reinforcement. The teachers are very welcoming, intuitive, caring and responsive to the child’s needs. During the class students can have a lot of fun, enjoy creative play, sensory time, social interaction and ART. Why don’t you try to spend a day or two in an English speaking environment where learning happens through Art and PLAY?

Food education

食育

At JKIS we grow vegetables, herbs and flowers. Students are given responsibility to take care of them. We talk about food and where it came from. We learn about life cycles, composting and recycling the reusable materials. We lead our students to care about nature and their community/environment.

Daily schedule

ARRIVAL TO SCHOOL

We start our day with the greeting “Good morning”. We go washing hands and start playing. As a warm-up activity, our students enjoy 10-15min of free, unstructured play.

ENGLISH CIRCLE TIME

We gather together and enjoy our “Circle time”. We sing songs, practice counting, reading, writing and talk about world around us. Most of the time the idea comes up from the students and their interest that have been observed by the teacher during the PLAY. There is also time for a discussion when students can express their opinions and feelings towards various artworks. Students take the lead and actively participate in activity being discussed.

CREATIVITY TIME session 1

After our Circle Time, students start working on their projects or engage in creative activities, such as painting, scribbling, drawing, pasting or cutting. Most of the time the activity itself is a child-led activity. Students choose the media and materials they want to work with. Sometimes activity is a teacher-led activity with a certain goal in her mind.

OUTDOOR TIME

The students get ready and we go outside. While being outside students enjoy playing with the mud, water, stones or sand. We also observe and talk about the nature. We sometimes put the easel outside and enjoy outdoor painting. What a great experience!

LUNCH / PLAY TIME

After returning to the school, we wash our hands, gargle and get ready for the lunch. After lunch, students can engage in free play, interact with each other to the teacher, do whatever they feel like doing. They enjoy building blocks, reading books, playing with the light table, loose parts or other educational toys. The choice is purely theirs.

CREATIVITY TIME session 2

It is time to paint, draw or work with the clay. Students spend time in the atelier and engage in exploring and playing a wide range of media and materials. We work on developing fine motor skill via arts and crafts and practical life skills activities. We also work on developing the gross motor skills through music, dance, movement, dramatic play or role-play. Sometime we enjoy messy play. Yeey!

STORY TIME / HOME TIME

Core belief: Learning happens through ART and PLAY

Art and play are one of 100 languages that help children express and communicate with others. Art teaches children to solve problems, think creatively, and respect others. It also teaches them how to take challenges and risks into their own hands!

Our Morning and Saturday School class is combined. Students learn in small groups through interactions and discussions with other students and teachers. In order to promote language development, we encourage students to talk about their art. Through art and play, students develop cognitively, physically and emotionally. By giving responsibility to our students, we guide them to become independent and self-confident. We want our students to feel cared, loved and safe!

Our values

Team work

Collaboration and teamwork is one of the key functions while building children's patience, responsibility, and self-control. We provide games and activities to support them.

Environment as a third teacher

We want our students to feel loved, understood and treated as individuals with 100 languages, hands, thoughts, ways of thinking, playing or speaking.

Respect for nature and art

We spend a lot of time outside. We are very lucky to have our own garden and lots of nature within the walking distance. We want our students to respect and appreciate the environment and community. We let our students to be curious, ask questions, do research, experiment and understand the world around them. We believe that learning outdoors is essential for making deeper connections with oneself or with others.

Appreciation of others

Collaboration, teamwork and mutual understanding are integral parts of our daily lives.
